th – 8th Grade Curriculum:

Math – 6th – 8th grade students use the Saxon Math Curriculum. In each daily lesson students’ work on mental math, fact practice, word problems, learning a new skill and reviewing previously learned material.

Reading – A wide variety of reading methods are used during this course, from whole class novel units, to fiction and non-fiction literature circles,to partner and individual reading projects. Students work on building their reading comprehension skills through daily response activities and culminating book projects.

English – Shurley English is used during our English time.  This method focuses on students learning the parts of speech and needed English rules through jingles and chants and classifying sentences using a question and answer flow.

Social Studies: This year, students are learning about Minnesota history using the Wackman and Wagner text Northern Lights: The Stories of Minnesota’s Past.

Science:  Students are getting an introduction to chemistry through the Pearson Interactive Science curriculum and labs.
